Free internet browsing has become very popular owing to the increasing dependence on the internet and the cost associated with data. One technique that has worked well for accessing the internet free of cost is the Slow DNS. Though this technique may not be the fastest one, users would be able to overcome restrictions and access the internet at a low cost or even free of cost using this technique in combination with the powerful and versatile HTTP Custom application.
Understanding Slow DNS
Slow DNS is a technique that routes internet activity through DNS (Domain Name System) servers. The main job of DNS is to convert website addresses into numerical IP addresses. This method takes advantage of that system to send small amounts of data disguised as regular DNS requests.
Because many networks keep DNS channels open for normal web browsing, Slow DNS uses this opening to maintain internet access. The trade-off is that the connection speed is typically very low.
How Slow DNS Operates
Most networks permit DNS traffic, even when other internet use is blocked. A standard DNS request asks a server for the IP address linked to a domain name. Slow DNS modifies this process by hiding user data within these requests. This creates a tunnel for information, allowing for simple online tasks.
The "Slow" in the name comes from the limited data capacity of DNS packets, which restricts speed. It's mostly useful for basic actions like reading text-based emails or visiting simple websites.
Setting Up Slow DNS in HTTP Custom
Preparing a Slow DNS Server
To set this up in HTTP Custom, you first need access to a Slow DNS server.
You can create a server on platforms like:
- LionSSH
- SSHocean
- ServerSSH
This guide uses LionSSH as an example.
On the LionSSH website:
- Choose an available server.
- Click the option to create an account.
- Enter any username and password you prefer.
- Complete the verification to confirm you are not a robot.
- Click the 'Create Account' button.

- Launch the HTTP Custom application
- Tap on the 'Slow DNS' option

- Enter the server details in this format: ip:port@username:password as shown in the example.

- Tap the puzzle piece icon, then choose the SlowDNS settings option.

- In the Domain Name System (DNS) section:
8.8.8.8
- For the Nameserver (NS) and Public Key (Pubkey) fields, refer to the following example.

- Tap 'Apply & Connect'.
